about

Teddy Tawil spent the early months of the Lebanese revolution of October 2019 documenting the anger and frustration of his friends and fellow citizens, through a series of videos posted on his social platforms under the title "Diary of a Revolution". Towards the end of 2019, he decided to take short breather from the ongoing collapse of his home country, and travelled to Belgium to visit some friends.

When this brief respite spiraled into a six-months quarantine away from home, Teddy turned to his favorite pastime: music. He became familiar with the "Electron Octatrack" performance sampler, the only machine available to him during his time in forced exile. Although it was an arduous process at first, this resolute autodidact eventually became well-acquainted with the sampler's complexity, and was able to develop an intuitive relationship with it. And thus, far away from home, Teddy had succeeded in writing his first "official" album, CAMA.

Marked by a distinct drum n bass/jungle sensibility, CAMA depicts the instability and oddity of being a Lebanese citizen today, shouldering the weight of decades of criminal governance. It is a testament to an isolated musician's ability to create, in what he considers to be the most cataclysmic year of his young life so far. In his own words, "my personal journey with this album has given me a longing for more simplicity, for the exploration of less isolated, more communal methods of working and creating music."
